BTDT.
Swap in the aluminum deep groove wire wheels from a '75.
Earlier 2-part brake disk has different dish but later 1-piece disk bolts up.
XS650 Standard gas tank drops straight on and it's a gallon bigger.
Dual the front disks. (there are bolt holes on both sides of the wheel)
Leftside caliper from XS750/850/1100 Standard fits. Specials don't.
Disk from XS11 fits, disks from XS750/850 are smaller.
Stock front m/c works better with dual disks.
And like any XS series bike, a Tkat fork brace is your friend.Fred Hill, S'toon

more than one
I voted for depending on what you start with.
However one of the benefits of owning more than one (4)
is that you can have it all,but I will admit it is a lot of work/fun keeping
tires batteries carbs fluids new, clean and up to snuff.

Forks
Welcome to the madness Damian,
Nice find. Hell, you stole it.
One thing I didn't hear anybody mention are your rusty fork tubes. That rust will destroy your fork seals unless you can get them very smooth with no pitting or just replace them. Leaky fork seals will allow the oil to run down on to your break pads and compromise your breaking efficiency, possibly ruin the pads as well. DAHIK1980G Standard, Restored

For rusty fork tubes, you can fill the pits with JB Weld and sand/polish them smooth. New gaiters for a Star Bolt will cover the repair. I recently repaired a leaking wheel this way.
The TKat fork brace is a MUST for handling. I have one on my midnight special, and one on my standard. They DO help a lot on the high speed sweepers..Ray Matteis
