Tail Light

Hey guys,

Got pulled over the other night because my rear lights were not illuminating my license plate. Brake lights still worked, and the officer let me go and told me to just lightly hit the brakes so people could see me. Since the brake lights still work I am confused on why they are not acting like running lights. Are the bulbs the dual filament kind and half of it burnt out? It has two separate bulbs and both light up when the brake is applied. Any ideas?

since the standard doesn't use the separate licence plate lights your dual filements could be burnt out or be dis-connected / dirty contacts to the lights / bad grounds, time to go exploring

Reading the manual and looking at the wiring diagram:
In the 4-fuse panel. the taillight fuse (10A)(blue to blue wire) is located on the left-hand side of the panel: continuing from left to right are the headlight (10A)(brown to red/yellow wire), turn signal (20A)(brown to brown wire) and ignition (10A)(brown to red/white wire).

Given your symptoms, No tail lights, If that first (10A) fuse blew, that would do it and you'd also have no front running lights.

The speedo and tach lights get power from the headlight circuit (10A) which is a separate fuse.

So, if your front running lights work, and your 2nd element in your tail lights don't, then it's probably the bulbs, if the fronts aren't working either, then it probably the fuse.
