  • Side Stand Bumper?

Isn't there supposed to be a rubber bumper for the side stand? I am tired of that thing slamming into the exhaust! Since I am getting one for the center stand I am trying to figure out the side stand too.

It is interesting that the fiche shows that there is a bumper on each side of the exhaust for the center stand but only one is really there.

The side stand bumper is a rubber ring which you put on the stand itself. If you look at the sidestand, you'll see a little metal projections on the arm part that you put your foot on to pull the stand outwards... these hold the ring in place on the stand. You can see it in this pic:

Maybe over the pond scoots James, but not here. Rubber bumper is located on the exhaust right where the crossover is for the side stand. Farther back on bottom of muff is another bracket for the centerstand bumper. Nate, you can buy them all day long from the dealer. Still available.....BTDT last year. BTW James, whats on that one in pic isn't original........but neither is the muffs.

Sorry Moto, but James is right; you're getting confused from looking at the Special exhaust on your '81H. Those do have a rubber bumper for the sidestand...

They're just what James shows for the '78-80 standards, but the OEM piece isn't actually rubber. More of a hard vinyl 'donut', I assume to take the heat of laying against the hot muffler without melting. OD is about 3/4" if you want to go looking for a substitute for the NLA OEM part.

This is the back side of an XJ Left muffler. Note the 2 spots for the still available part.

                      I like that!

So is there 1 or 2 bumpers for the center stand? I could only find 1 spot for a bumper to go.
