What was wrong with your original one, was it beyond repair?

I cleaned mine at the beginning of last season and I still wasn't impressed with its behavior. I've always felt it provided enough stopping power it just didn't seem to have a smooth range of motion and I was about ready to sh*t can it. The other day I decided to check the handle and adjust the free play. When I removed the handle I found the pivot bolt was all corroded and the plastic bushing inside was warn real good one one side. I cleaned it up and put some synthetic brake lubricant on the bushing and the difference is amazing.

Another trick is to grind the divot off the external end of the plunger, that will also help eliminate the notchy feel when squeezing the lever. Amazing how much difference this makes when rebuilding a high mileage unit.

When I rebuilt my front I tossed the torn dust boot, and lubed the plunger externally really well with silicone spray. It's smoooth now. I still wish it had better front brakes, but they work.

Definitely interested in pics/info on the master cylinder upgrade.

I'm sure you could find a spot to drill and tap for a mirror...

I'm sorry to bump up a couple month old post, but I wanted to ask... Will this master cylinder bolt on with the factory XS1100 brake hoses? I'm looking at this as an option to replace my front master cylinder and there are a bunch on eBay for a great price, but I want to make sure it'll work with my existing brake lines, so I can bolt it on and be good to go!

Cool, after seeing some close pictures of it, I figured it would. Already bought one off of eBay for 15 shipped. Supposed to be in working condition, with a few scratches. Very glad to find this tip after finding my m/c trashed!
