Puff of air out of carb 4 when shut off?

As the title says I'm getting a puff of air out of I believe carb four when I turn it off. Just started yesterday, had a 150 mile ride last weekend and she was great. I'm hoping it's just the slack in the timing chain(read somewhere on here it could do that) that I think I hear. Doesn't quite seem like valve clearance chatter. I've got to get some money for the valve cover gasket and new tensioner before I tackle that because I plan on doing valve clearances at the same time. Any other ideas on what it could be?

Don't really have an answer for you but the valves get quiet to silent as they wear, so NO valve noise is bad. This engine has a noisy top end.

Guess that means my 79F needs checked because it's silent, yet sounds better than my 80SG. Haha. Thank you Nate!

Here is my thought. Every time you turn the motor off it will rest in the area where it has the least resistance between open/closed valves. There will always be a valve or two partially open each time the motor is stopped.

As far as the valve clearance, they will wear tight so like Nate said, too quite is not a good thing. But if you have an intake valve that is 'that tight' or sticking, you would be getting a popping backfire while the motor is running and a burned valve will follow quickly.

Why wait to check? Forget the valve cover gasket. I have not used one in years. Alot of guys use heat resistant silicone in place of the gasket with great results. I personally use Yamabond #4 and never have any leaks. Tensioner gasket is easily made from some gasket material.

Thanks for the input, Mike. I'll have to get some Yamabond and open her up maybe this weekend or next. Maybe it is just the engine but I just starting hearing it yesterday so I'm not certain that's what it is.. Just hope it doesn't hurt her
