I had to replace my front right brake pads. I tried both but I could not get the new ones to spread enough to get it back on the rotor. So i put one new one and the best old one and it barely fit. After I applied the brakes the first time I could hear it rubbing. Is there a way to adjust the spacing or will the rubbing just die out after it breaks in?

You've got crud in your brake system, you need to disassemble/clean everything....
It sounds like corrosion behind the caliper piston seal. That will prevent free movement of the piston (which is why it wouldn't push back in), and allow the pad to drag. The problem won't go away with wear, it will probably get worse....Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

First, did you try to push the piston back in? Use a C-clap with a block of wood so it pushes across the entire face of the piston to squeeze the piston back into the caliper. Only mention it because you did not state you tried that.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Yeah i tried it I got it half way down before it would not go in anymore. Thought maybe that was as far as it would go. I was even using a 8" Clamp. Actually I was use two since the first one broke when I was tightening. But that was due to a stress crack in it.82 XJ1100

Brakes are really easy on this thing, all you need to do to clean the caliper is pop the piston out of the bore. Remove a dust shield and clip (no tools required), squeeze brake lever to pop piston out, and then remove the seal inside and clean them up.
I did it in the parking deck at work in about 45 minutes, you can do it
Believe me, it needs to be done, or you risk having that front brake lock up on you. That's a pain in the butt. And face, and arms, and chest, and back, and...XS11SH :: K&N Pods, 4->1, Dynojet kit, Barnett clutch springs, TC's fuse block, ATGATT
