  • electrical problem please help

ok well today i was changing a fuse to the back tail light. I had a wire for my cigarette lighter come loose where the headlight area. It had touched ground without my knowlege. I came out to go for a ride and have no power to anything. All fuses on the side look ok. Battery is ok. What could i have shorted out?

Later bikes have a main fuse on the other side of the bike above the battery. Since you didnt say year or model that is the best suggestion I can give you.

I also have a 82 and there is a little black square by the battery. Inside it is a glass fuse check that.

That glass fuse is the main fuse. All power (ok, most of the power) goes to that first, then to the main key switch. Not sure on the XJ, but on the XS it is under the left side cover (one you open with a key).
