Just picked up a 1982 Yamaha XJ1100 off of Ebay for $560 dollars and proud of it. I hope to find out alot about this bike on this forum. I will post a pick as soon as I can. i need a vetter windshield for it. I alreay have the fairing. Does anyone here have a winshield or know where I can get one? Thanks

Congrats on getting your bike. Vetter replacements are available through Dennis Kirk catalogs (www.denniskirk.com) or J.C. Whitney. I have the style with the round snap-open vents, which I find useful in warm-weather riding.

      Hey there BigDog,

Welcome and hopefully your XJ is in great shape, engine wise. Do a search here, and also check out the tech tips, especially for your windshield. If you are on a budget, you can replace it yourself by getting a sheet of plexiglass and cutting it, drilling it, and heating/molding it to fit for not much $$, LEXAN if you want to put more $ into it! Again, congrats and happy riding!

Thanks. I appreciate it. The bike is in very good shape. There is a ticking we cant figure out though when you are riding it. Any ideas?

          Ticking, in time??

          Hello again Bigdog,

Well, you will learn that you will need to provide a bit more info with regards to symptoms before folks can provide any real answers vs. just mere guesses.

Okay, the ticking, does it increase/decrease with engine speed, or only with actual bike speed....wheel speed moving faster, but engine at idle, like with the clutch pulled in/disengaged??

Could be mechanical, like timing chain slack not properly adjusted. Could be electrical like spark jumping thru wires thru worn spot against frame/engine. Could be nail or rock in tire tread hitting ground?? Could be an exhaust leak? Could be a loose nut/bolt somewhere on the frame vibrating to the harmonics of the engine?

See what I mean. Try to do a little more detective work and be a bit more descriptive. That'll help narrow things down for both you and US!!

I got my vetter replacement windshield from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse and also replaced the nylon hardware by ordering the bolt kit from Vetters website.

Maw often has good closeout deals, I think I paid $58 for the vented windshield.

            Luck,

            Rob
