  • carb diaphragm question

Hi guys. Question is. Is there a way to soften my diaphragms? And would this is be what causes her to stumble when I open her up. Runs out good if I roll on her slow.

Just to clarify, you have a stumble, and your hypothesis is that it is due to stiff diaphragms?

I'm no expert here, but I've never heard of that being a problem. More likely is that they have a small leak (pin hole). This would prevent vacuum from building on the top side of the diaphragm which would keep the slide from lifting.

I am sure someone else will chime in whether that will cause your driveability problem, but in the mean time, you might want to check them for small holes or tears.

I had a stumble like you are talking about when I first rebuilt my carbs. I discovered that the kits I bought had the wrong pilot jets in them and as soon as I put the stock ones back in the stumble disappeared.

A lot of the kits you buy have pilots with 8 bleed holes in them and that causes the stumble. The correct pilots have 6 bleeds in them.
