  • Float buying help

I need 2 floats because they are sticking and all the sanding and polishing and float pin replacing has only made it worse. So Im just going to replace them. My problem is I dont know the right one for my 3H3 carbs. I keep seeing Part# 20-6502 and 20-6504 come up.

What type of floats are in your carbs right now, brass or plastic? I know the 3H3 carbs (79 Special) originally came with brass floats but plastic ones can be substituted as long as you replace all four.

I got the plastic floats in there but I couldn't find a part number on them to reference from.

That list starts at 1980, are they still the same for the 79? I was thinking of buying the new floats too and mine is a 79 special (3h3).

We should get that site into the links page.

'80 was the first year for the plastic floats, prior to that it was the brass floats. You can change to the plastic floats in the earlier carbs but you must use the 23mm float height of the later carbs.

Just a little FYI. I got my floats in the mail yesterday and they are a perfect match/fit. So anyone that was cautious before can be more confident they work now.

Thanks again for the referral Bikerphil & Marty!!
