  • Brass Floats?

I tore down my buddys 79 carbs the other day and two of the floats are collapsed looks like the bowls where full of water and it froze. Anyway ive been looking on line for new ones and they are ether $50 a piece or out of stock. Does anyone know of a good website for getting new ones at a decient price? Any help would be apriciated. Thanks.

You could switch them out for plastic ones. You'd need to do all 4 though, and Mikesxs sell 'em for $20 each.
    1980 XS850SG - Sold
    1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special (Sold) - purchased 9/29/08
Fully Vetterized and Dynojet Kit added, Heated Grips, Truck-Lite LED headlight, Accel Coils, Irridium plugs, TKAT Fork Brace, XS850LH Final Drive & Black SS Brake lines from Chacal.
Here's my web page devoted to my bike! XS/XJ User's Manuals there, and the XJ1100 Service Manual and both XS1100 Service manuals (free download!).

Another option: yamahapartshouse.com has the brass Yamaha Float for $34.30 P/N 2A2-14985-01-00. Depends on if you are going with just 2 to replace the 2 collapsed floats or going with 4 new where plastic would be more cost effective.

I just purchased a brass float and float pin from them for a 78' E. My experience was that service was very good.

Looking at the ones Mikes has I don't see why they won't work. Has anyone tried them?

That's venturi size, not float size.

People have ordered and tried those brass floats from MikesXS only to find that they are too wide and won't fit.

Plastic ones OK, brass ones are wrong.

                              idle screws broke.

I didnt feel like starting a new thread so i am just going to post on this one. I started cleaning these carbs up and noticed all 4 idle mixture screw tips are broke off in the bottom of the holes and someone used diffierent style screws to cover it up. My question is how do i go about drilling them out? I saw a treead on here somewhere. Where someone had done this but i could not locate it. If someone could advise me on how to do it or could find that tread i would appriciate it. Thanks.
