  • Carb nozzle removal

I've checked all of the posts and tech tips on this, but before I destroy my nozzles, I thought it was a good idea to check this first. To remove the nozzles I first remove the main jet, then do the nozzles tap out from below? Mine seem pretty tight, although the general condition inside the carbs is clean. Is it normal for them to be tight? It seems that the main jet screws into the base of the nozzle, right? Is it a good idea (or bad) to loosen and not remove the main jet and tap on it to dislodge the nozzle? Any ideas, guys? gals? Thanks. Randy.

    Main nozzle

You are right in the removal procedure, remove the jet and drive them upwards toward the top of the carb, but the slides and diaphrams must be removed to get the nozzle out . They can be difficult to remove. If you can find a screw with the same thread as the main jet, then thread that into the nozzle and tap it out that way, or a small wooden dowel can be used. They may look clean, but the sides of the tubes have a lot of small holes drilled in them, and those holes affect the throttle from about idle to 1/2 throttle opening. Be sure to clean them well. When reinstalling the tubes, you will find some small notches in the end of the tube where the jet screws in. This notch lines up with a 'peg' in the carb body, you'll see it when you get the tube out, and the square cutout on the top of the tube should point to the engine side of the carb. You could loosen the main jet, and using a wooden dowel, tap lightly on the jet to break the nozzle loose in the carb. If that doesn't work then a good soak in some good carb spray will help, but when you get them out be sure to check/clean the small holes in the tubes.

Thanks, John. I know I just need to loosen the nozzle and then she should slide right out, but I wasn't sure if what I was seeing after I removed the main was actually the bottom of the nozzle. That's a load off my mind. I'll gently tap the main to loosen them. Thanks again.
