  • Another installment of "Is THAT xs1100 worth buying?". I think you'll find it is. ;)

Okay well after the parts bike deal fell through due to the owner "Needing to take care of other things" on Sunday even after we set a time. (Sending you a PM with his info though, Greg). I went to searching for another bike, found quite a few I like, but nothing was quite pulling on the wallet enough(or rather, light enough) for me to snatch it up - until I found this bike.

I seem to have turned into a major Xssive rather quickly. I am going to pick her up tomorrow. You might think that it's not too special, y'know it isn't that nice or really too rich with goodies. But wait, there's more...

She happens to come with all of this!

    .

I just couldn't pass this package up! It has crash bars. Never used the Cafe racer fairing(which I'll probably sell as I don't care for it). I really wanted some hard saddlebags and backseat though! I just can't wait to go pick her up tomorrow. I'm surprised Greg didn't grab it up as I'll be traveling well into his area...

Here's some info about the bike. Odometer went out at 9k, he guesses it has 15k on it now. He purchased it from a coworker, and that coworkers brother-in-law bought it brand new. It sat 16 years before it's current owner who has had it for 8 and 6 of them were riding. He still fires it up and drives it every once and a while and it's in great shape. He has redone all brake calipers, front fork springs, and even wheel bearings so I'm glad I don't have to do that again(Although I'll probably do the LHS bearing. Good thing I ordered a spare!). The things he says it needs is a battery, new fork seals as the ones he installed now leaks and a float or too sticks but that's nothing like what I did with my current '80SG.

        A year.....

With the tail piece behind the seat on there it looks like an E (78).

Looks like it might be a F; I don't see one of the bead locks on the rear wheel.

The only major differences is the late Fs came with tubeless wheels, but the E has more zip because of different timing curves on the mechanical/vacuum advance units.

I think they added the grab bar in 79 though so it must be an F.

Oh I see, well the owner says that it is a '79. But he also said he has tubes in the tires.. I'm seeing why checking the title up and down is important now..

Greg, appearance-wise the E and F are identical except for color/graphics. The headlight, timing assembly, and sometimes the wheels are the only real differences. Some of the late Fs lack the headlight 'on-off' switch on the handlebar, and the emergency kick lever is chromed on the E, zinc-plated on the F. They also substituted some zinc hardware for chrome on some bikes for the brake/shifter levers. Little stuff....

                          Hi Greg,
yeah, I noticed that. If the round light package was installed after a collision, OK.
If they were swapped to fit that round-lamp fairing the square headlamp and tree-mounted front signals may still be on a shelf some place to be had for the asking.
I read in a post here that the fancy clips that mount the signals to the tree are becoming highly collectable (i.e. effin' expensive)

                            Hmmm

Those hard bags are exactly like those on my 80SG.
First time I ever saw them anywhere else.
They don't have the big wraparound mounting like most, but just the simple set-up you see there. Very handy having the signals in the bags, also, when changing over.
