I am working on an '81 1100 Special and need to remove the seat. The problem is that the key cylinder that locks the seat in place was removed by the previous owner. He then put the seat back on and it is locked in place. How can I get it off? I couldn't see anything obvious. Also, where can I get a new key cylinder? Thanks

I think the locking apparatus you are looking at might actually a helmet lock. The seat should be held on with two 14mm bolts....Ken TalbotComment

You need to invest in a couple of those long nuts that make them accessible just below the bottom level of the seat!

I've considered using some of the flip-cam nuts like they use on new bicycles. I can't find them anywhere. Ideas?Tony K.

XJ SEAT LOCKS
Or you could find an xj that is parted out and get the seat locks off it they just have a lever that pops the seat off,you also need to get the parts off the bottom of the seat. Pretty sure that could be rigged on to your bikes....MITCHDoug Mitchell
