If all is good, it should be enuff, but if you need a kickstart, all is not good. If it would be a nice chromed one thats always on the side of the bike, it would at least look good.

Are you saying it starts with the electric starter but not kicking it? How odd. I had the opposite problem a while back, would crank with electric but no start, one kick and Vrooom! Turned out to be a bad engine to frame ground under batt. box. Drove me nuts finding it, bolt and cable looked clean till I pulled the bolt out, terminal was black under it. Weak coils could cause same problem not firing with weaker cranking voltage when starter is engaged.
If it starts fine on electric but not with kicking it, it sounds like fuel mix problems, or if you are near here about now it is just too Da%&$ COLD!!!

Question: Since the Ballast resistor is bypassed when you hit the starter button, perhaps it's NOT being bypassed when you try the kick starter, so less juice to coils making not as strong a spark to keep it firing? Also, if you're not very big, then maybe not being able to put enough grunt behind the kick to really give it a good spin?? Just some thought?

Euhhh... The reason the ballast resistor is bypassed is because you have the STARTER that's draining the battery, hence dropping the voltage, so you don't need an additionnal voltage drop. When using kickstart, the ballast resistor should be there, so that the full battery voltage dosen't overheat the coils.

Not that I would think that the coils can't take full battery voltage for a couple of seconds while kickstarting the bike, but... I belive that the system was designed that way.

              start

Sure you can have both! The only difference is what energy source makes the crankshaft turn.
