Brand? There is only one brand - Gunson's Colortune. You can get used ones or NOS ones from ebay, or new ones from Carbtune.co.uk.

      1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special (Sold) - purchased 9/29/08

I'm looking at either a Colortune or a Motion Pro Synchronizer, I can't do both right now. Which would be better to start with?

Sync tool. Hands down. You NEED some kind of sync tool (you CAN make one yourself if you want to), or you'll never get very close to tuning. You can do the colortuning by ear or over time by checking plug colors (looking for a nice light tan).

It has no liquid to get bubbles in or lose. They are rebuildable, portable and you can buy a bundle where you get the Carbtune a case to carry/keep it in and a gunson colortune. The bundled package is not that much more than just the Carbtune. Cost for shipping was only about $7 and it arrived in 9 days. Wonderful tool to have!
