  • cct oil leak

I have oil leaking from my cam chain tensioner. The thing is that its leaking from the center of it. Where the black plastic looking piece is in the center of it. Do I need to replace the tensioner or just the gasket?

    Thank you in advance.

The center is a rubber plug. If the plug is still there, pull it out carefully, and clean both the plug and the CCT with Brake parts cleaner (no residue). Dab some RTV of your choice on the plug and re-insert it. That should hold it for quite a while. If the plug is damaged, you can still get them. I got one at the local dealer for about $5.

No gasket in that area. Having to remove it, take it apart in order to fix it CORRECTLY, I would SERIOUSLY consider replacing the whole thing with one of the many auto-tensioner options! At this point in time, that stock tensioner will NOT consistantly stay tensioned and the rod WILL get pushed back under a decel, and it does NOT have to be a hard decel in order to happen. My second stock tensioner's rod got pushed back with a blip of the throttle while on the center-stand a few years back. It got removed and in went a Venture/V-Max auto tensioner right then. The bike also WILL run smoother keeping the cams in time all the time using an auto-tensioner. Beats the alternative using the stock adjuster and chain happens to jump time.
