I'm having real trouble removing the axle from my 80 xs standard. I need to get a new tire. I take the pin out that holds the nut, remove the nut, loosen the pinch screw on the right side and the thing just isnt coming out. The manual says to remove it from the right but i try with no luck. I saw a diagram on bikebandit.com and there doesnt seem to be anything there to obstruct it. does anyone have any insight into this issue.

Try sticking a screwdriver into the hole in the right hand end of the axle and see if you can get it to break loose, even if all it does is spin. Once it is moving, you can put a block of hardwood against the other end and whack it with a hammer. You know how the rest goes if at first it doesn't move...Ken Talbot

I had this same problem with mine. Insert a screwdriver as Ken suggested, and see if the spacer turns with the axle. The axle shaft on mine had seized inside the spacer. I had to soak it good with WD40, and then grip the spacer with some vice-grips, and then work the axle shaft back and forth to loosen it up. It took a couple days of soaking but it did come off eventually. I would think if you had a torch to heat the spacer you might get faster results.Brian

I GOT IT
Axle came out with about a full day of wd40 and a big hammer. I got a new tire mounted and got it all back on the bike this morning. It is a little wider than stock, but i still have clearance of about 1/4" from the driveshaft. This is all exiting to me becasue this is my first bike. bought it for 150 bucks, after 1 hour of work got it running. Now its looking pretty cool, just need new exhaust now. thanks alot everyone.
