  • Leak from the galley plug under the timing cover

I've had a small leak coming from the plug under the timing cover since I bought the bike a couple of months ago. While riding this weekend, I looked down at my left foot and my blue shoe was pretty much a dark brown. I guess it's time to do something about it.

I purchased the o-ring in hopes that is the issue. I'm pretty sure it is. So when I remove this plug, is all my oil going to drain? I was thinking about just catching it and reusing it. Any reason not to do that? It's only about 1,200 miles/30 days old.

You should only see less than a pint. Just what's in the galley and the main bearings. No biggie. If you prefer, tilt the bike to the right and it'll be less of a mess.

u mite loose a little bit of oil, wouldnt be much
      have a container underneath,
but u wont drain the oil by undoing that bolt
      unless u start the engine.

if its not coming from the plug theres a seal
for the crankshaft that sits behind the timing cover
that can have a tendancy to leak, u might want to suss
that out, if its leaking from there ull see it in the cover.

The PO actually had the crankshaft seal issue and replaced it 5 or so years ago. I'm really hoping it's just the plug o-ring. The weather is too nice for the bike to be down.

          Well crap.

So I took off the galley plug, replaced the o-ring and could tell right away it didn't need replacing. Looking at the plug, many of the threads on it are stripped. I'm assuming this is my issue.

Is this plug even still available? Anyone have a part # or source?

I have the same issue, replaced the galley plug with a spare I had and new o-ring. Unfortunately, the oil (small amount) is collecting in the bottom of the cover after a 15 mile or so ride, so now on to the crankshaft oil seal. Great, that's a bitch to get out.

Part number is 90340-18073-00. I'd be a bit concerned about the threads in the crankcase too, since that's softer aluminum.

Speed and Sport says they have 5 of them for $18.45 ea.
