  • XS1100 Build

So this is my first build that I'm doing and its with a XS1100. I know its not the best bike to start with, however I went to pick up a 650 and this is what the guy had. I'll be adding pictures of the processes I'm going through. I am new to most all of this so a little help may be needed here and there.

The first thing is my VIN its not listed on the models vin thread. I have a 4H7-008239. I saw a 4H3 but not 4H7.

I'll be getting pictures up as soon as I can.

    Cheers
    Tucker

We won't be much help and this isn't the right forum.... the VIN identifies that as a 1980 XJ650 Maxim Similar bike, but definitely not the same...

Wow, this thing is completely throwing me for a loop. I'm about 100% certain that it does have an XS11 motor. It's 4 Cylinder with a drive shaft. Maybe someone dropped the guts of an 1100 into the frame of a maxim long ago.

The number on the case 2200cm3.

Better to do a bit more looking there. the number you provided may be just the oil capacity. The number on the engine will be similar to the Vin on the neck. More numbers and letters to be more specific.

                Hey Tucker,

On our engine cases, it says 3000cc's, that's the OIL CAPACITY of the engine case, not the Engine Piston displacement. Hopefully you didn't pay too much or any more that what you had planned to pay when you thought you were going to get 650.

                See this Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_XJ650_Maxim

Nah, I paid four hundo for it thinking it was an XS650 then got it home and thought it was an 1100 due to the 4 cylinders and shaft. So ultimately the seller was pretty close when he said 650. Either way it should still be a fun build.

Are there many if any parts from the xs11 that will work on this bike? Obviously the engine stuff want, but what about wheels?

And does anyone know of any decent XJ forums?

Here's a good site for you:

                      http://www.powersportsplus.com/parts...cle/parts.html

When you find a part and click on it, it will tell you every motorcycle that part was used on.

Probably, your best resource will be XJbikes.com

I had an 82 xj650 and it was my only transportation for almost 2 years. I put 6k miles on her in that time and she only got me stranded once and it was cuz I left the tank on reserve the previous fillup so I ran it dry of gas. Was a great bike, been kicking myself everytime I think about it for selling it.

                          Hi Tucker,
I have one of those. I suggest you start a thread over in the "Other bikes" section. plenty of knowledge here and a number of members have or had the XJ650 /750. Excellent bike.
