Might as well suck it up and get used to it. E-10 is coming to all soon enough, big brother says so.

Fortunately, while available, its not yet common here, however it's on it's way, with a vengance. Here's Mobils latest propoganda on the subject.

As shown previously, my main contact with Ethanol is for drinking from my still, since it's legal to do that here.

        The Table

Acording to that liturature, Yamaha doesn't recommend using any kind of ethanol blend on any of their vehicles.

Its not only ethanol that causes the problems. These days all phases of the gas industry are looking for ways to cut corners. Filtering in stations is does not exit they depend on settling. They do not pump sediment off unless they are forced to. So if you are traveling one thing to look for at a station is a fill truck. If you see a pumper then more than likely everything good and bad is being stirred in the tank and if you get gas at that time chances are good you get a good case of clean your carbs. They also move gas in large pipelines accross the country. They put separators which include water inbetween different grades of gas and at the recieving end pump the separation into tanks to filter and settle. This separator gas is sold as cheaper gas as the quality is not guarenteed. Now the methods may have changed in the years since it was explained to me but I bet now that not a drop of anything that they can call gas is not sold somewhere.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

I live in mass and as far as I can tell I think that I can't get real gas anywhere. I would like to try it tho. The only place I can think is at an airport. There's a bunch of small ones. It's avgas 100LL. But it has lead so I don't know if you can use it in an xs.

The lead won't hurt the engine a bit. Actually the opposite.

The only problem it would cause is if you had a catalytic converter. The lead would clog it up.

I have never had any issues with our old gas. Once we started getting ethanol in every station province wide I have noticed that I have issues. Be it a snowblower, lawnmower, or motorcycle, if it has sat for a long while it will gum up. Since I bought my 79SF new it has never had any stabilizer or any special treatment. I just shut the petcocks off in the fall and turn them on in the spring.
Last spring for the very first time I had gummed up carbs on my 79SF. I would attribute this to the ethanol in the gas except it was also the first year I used Seafoam as a (maybe) fuel stabilizer. This year the only bike I have had out for a ride was good to go and I did not use any stabilizer. I did not use it in any of my long term stored units and they all worked. The lawnmower is of course still buried in snow so I can not attest to that.
JAT but does a product that has been available for about 70 yrs need to update it's formula for more modern fuels. I know it still works to get crap loose and out of my carbs and I use it liberally, but the gas Grandpa used to get and what we get is a different beast.

Let's not forget, lead is poison. There's good reason we don't have it anymore.

Last I was aware 100 low lead aviation fuel has a lot of lead in it.

If a gas station offered unleaded gas with alcohol at one pump and leaded gas without alcohol at a second pump, I'd be gassing up at pump #2. Not worried at all about the particular poison, I believe it's all poison.

Truth is price at the pump is more likely to give us a heart attack before the lead could take effect.

That's exactly why they mandated it out. I'd do the same thing. I'm taking care of my bike. To H*** with the lead spewing out of my exhaust.
