  • Ethanol?

I never noticed this before. When i have the bike sitting for a couple hours the fuel level in the lines drop. At first I thought the fuel was leaking into the cylinders or air box but it turned out not to be the case. My octy's are removed so I always shut off the petcocks. Bewildered I checked the other bike and sure enough, same thing. So I put some fuel in some extra gas hose and hung it up for a few hours and measured the drop in the bikes and the hose and sure enough they are identical. Is this the ethanol evaporating quicker, the additives or is the fuel that different now.

Not sure about your neck of the woods, but over here the fuel's got all sorts of garbage in it now, and some of it's really nasty stuff.

If you want to replace the Ethanol, perhaps I can help....

I am fortunate that I have ethanol free gas available nearby...the difference in engine performance...economy and efficiency is really stunning. Only time I use ethanol gas is when I am away from home base and cant find it. There is a website that lists by states the locations...its for the USA and Canada ... theres a good chance you can find ethanol free gas up there...worth looking into...Here this is the site...

        Wow

that must be it, when I looked on your list the places I use all have ethanol added unless you are putting in 91 octane (high test). Think i might run a couple tanks of high test through them just to see the difference.(other than price)

          Combat Ethanol!!!

The best defense against it if you have no other choice is
StarTron, you can find it in the sporting goods dept at WallyWorld along

I keep it in all my bikes, lawn mowers, and my 95 Fleetwood which
I only drive like once a month...

My closest ethanol free gas is 17 mi away. Those two places I listed are about 30 miles. What better excuse for a trip over Blood Mountain?

                    Thanx guy's

didn't know about the condensate in the tank from the ethanol. Geez the oil companies and car companies must be in on it together. Crap gas reserves last longer and leads to more maintenance and break downs for the dealerships. The quality of everything is suspect now. Funny thing about the fuel level drop in the lines. It drops real fast in the first couple hours then hits a steady state so I figure that must be the percentage of crap they've added has evaporated when it hits the steady state level.

I noticed the difference just last sunday. Some friends and I were over in Arkansas riding and on the way back we filled up there at a station that had 100% gas. The bike ran great at 70 - 100 MPH but then we stopped at a Walmart and gassed up for the leg to Tulsa. I was getting some pre-ignition and power loss around 90MPH in 5th. About 5.5 - 6 K with the 850 fd.

Real gas is rare in The Peoples Republic of Oregon. Worth the trip and worth the money, IMO. The King of Kong really enjoys it. E-10 looses 4-5 mpg, makes less power.

Members located in areas without ethanol- free gas stations may have luck sourcing it at boat fuel docks (bring your 5 gallon jugs, tell 'em your boat's in a slip somewhere else), or lawn mower/ yard machine shops (for 2-cycle engines), or even municipal airports, where the avgas 100LL even has lead in it. Expect to pay more, of course.

well it looks as though any of the canadian members may be S.O.L. I just did some investigating and it looks like as of last year all gas in canada has to have at least 5% ethanol in it according to what I have found and some provinces may have more. here is the line to what led me to this.
