I thought I suggested looking up Georgefix on ebay, depending on the condition of the carbs, you may or may not need some of the other parts that are in "KITS" like on Z1enterprises. The bowl gaskets, and the float valve needle/seats are the more commonly worn items, and then of course you're looking for the jets. You have aftermarket 4-2's, you probably won't need a jet change for going to 4-1's. With either aftermarket pipes and pods, you're looking at about 3 sizes up on the mains for a starting point, some have put in 1 size up on pilots, others have just turned the pilot screws out another turn with good results....YMMV!

You can look in the tech tips, mods, for ways to adapt those pods to work with your bike without interfering with the air flow in the inlet ports! Or, you can buy newer filters...XS performance brand Oval K&N clones, I think I found that Partsnmore has better prices now than MikesXS.net .

I don't remember the Georgefix on ebay referral but I will look into that. Also I will look for those common wear items and start with them.

Is this the EMGO filter I've heard so much about? Why would there be oil coming out the carb? I'm hoping the PO just over oiled the filter and thats what im seeing.

I buy my jets from a local dealer, but they order them from parts n more. Mikesxs.com also has them.

This would be the preferred method for me. Do you happen to have a preferred store to buy them? I was going to buy carb rebuild kits which say they come with mains and pilots, but this seems like a waste of money if I am changing to new sizes right?

I'm going for a jog and if I make it back I'll post a link to the kits I was considering. Pretty sure they were at Z1enterprize.com or one of the other links on our site.

That's actually what I thought this kit was because anytime I search "xs11 carb kit" I get Dyno kit all day. What I was really trying to find is a jet kit with different sizes for if/when I make changes to the bike. As a kid I remember my dad having one for his Kawasaki Spectra. At some point I'll change the exhaust from the 4-2 to a 4-1 and will need to address the jets again.

The other reason I wanted the master kit was I don't want to keep ordering jets if I don't get the combo correct.

Either way you guys are defiantly reassuring and I think I'll keep my $$$ and do this myself. Pinesol seems to be a common cleaning method, how long should I let it sit?

That kit looks like a stripped-down version of a DynoJet kit... there's little there that you couldn't buy for much less money, and if the kit uses non-mikuni jets, probably better performance.

If the bike is running poorly while cold, it's not jetting; you have clogged and/or dirty enrichener passages, a common problem. 98% of all carb problems are dirty carbs and/or proper adjustment.

    Hey New2me,

That company is on eBay with over 7k feedback points, they provide kits for all sorts of bikes, but these kits are just Dyno Jet Clones. And they are not just a bolt on type mod, you will still need to get INTO the carbs, cleaning them thoroughly and properly, then you will still need to tune them, balance them, etc....so no short cut fix!

You mentioned PODS, what type? More often than not they are the inexpensive EMGO brand but they won't be printed on them, but you can tell by taking one off and looking inside the mounting rubber, if they have a PROMINENT lip sticking out inwards towards the center of the filter, then they are EMGO, and have been reported to cause tuning and running problems due to restriction of air flow thru the inlet bell ports.

However, if your carbs have not been jetted properly with your mods, that, too can cause performance issues for sure! You're in a location where I'm sure there are XSives near you that would be willing to lend you a hand in person to help you along....they won't necessarily do the work for you, but can help you NOT damage them while you learn to work on them yourself.

FIND the carbs 101 thread soon to be a formal tech tip, and read thru it for a great pictorial guide to cleaning your carbs. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

The problem is the PO messed with the bike and its not running the way it should when its cold. He put pod filters and a 4-2 exhaust on there but only changed the mains. He also couldn't remember the size and didn't say if they are all the same size or staggered like stock.

started a topic 6 Sigma Jets kit

    6 Sigma Jets kit

Has anyone had any experience with this kit?

    http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-XS1100-...2592510&sr=8-1

I'm debating trying to rework my carbs myself or pay someone. I really don't have the experience or time, and I tend to have limited patience.
Working...
