Anyone have a pro or con, concerning oil coolers? Thanks, Later 'Dog

    Hey Dog,

These machines are air cooled, and unless you ride in 95+ temp weather but also in lots of stop and go type traffic/jams, then most folks feel they aren't really necessary. Others feel that keeping the oil a bit cooler can help protect it from damage from oil thermal breakdown!

Downside is with a non-thermostatically controlled cooler, in cold weather it could be hard to get and keep the engine up to full normal operating temps so being able to burn off condensed water vapor, as well as using more fuel because it won't get warm enough.

If you don't want the cooler some others might pay a few $ for it. I've got one on my G it kinda hides under my fairing.

Couldn't a person have a ball valve on one of the lines to close in cool weather?

the ones that do not have a thermostatic bypass in them have no way for the oil to bypass the cooler. So if you put a valve in there then you cut off all oil flow.

If you used a three way valve and had a bypass hose then yes you could do that.
