  • Down And Dirty Cheap Fuse Box Mod

Here is my version of a fuse box mod.My major goal with this bike is reliability, not a faithfull restoration.I used non-insulated clip's, and heat shrink tubing, but insulated one's would work just as well. The clip's are just standard female spade connector's, available everywhere, but I used .187 pitch as they fit the fuse blades better.I just clipped off the wires from the original holders, adjusted the length, and crimped on the connector's.I used a piece of heatshrink to "pair" each set of wires so I dont get lost in the future.Total cost?? Less than $5. We have been using this form of fuse holder in electric powered model aircraft for year's.Some application's draw 20 amp's or more, and we have not had a meltdown, or vibration failure(yet). Comment's??

Looks great, I would add a bit of dielectric grease just to make sure they don't corrode. Especially at the crimp point. Soldering might not be a bad idea too.

Did you check out the fuse block mods listed in the tips section? Your mod works great but I would rather spend the $1.50 for the fuse holder and have the easier changing. Whatever works.....is it oK if I add your mod to the tips section on the fuse blocks?

          Re fuse box mod

That would be great,Gary. I looked into the other holders and information shown.I like to go with the minumum amount of connection's needed to complete the task.

            fuse replacement

here is my shot and the fuse box. the fuse holders were a couple bucks apiece and a box of mini fuses about the same. i soldered everything in line and wrapped it up. i took out the original fuse box holder completely.

              POOLBOY,

I need you to email me the photos or a link where I can steal (umm...borrow them) for upload to the site.

              Thanks!

                Hey there Gary,

His pictures are right there in his post several messages above, it's easy to Save Picture As from them.

**Okay, I found that he had them labelled as html files instead of jpgs, but got them and uploaded them to the files section, I'll send you the location URLs in a PM!**

PS, I did my fusebox several weeks ago, got a 5 fuse holder from Pep Boys, it was about $15.00, but the highest rated fuse it said it could handle was 15Amp. The old Turn Signal fuse slot "surprisingly" was the one that required a 20amp, **PRIOR** to my LED conversion, but with my LED's and electronic signals, I don't need more than 10A, so I felt comfortable using this fuse box for my particular application. I took a couple of photos of it as well, but not sure if you/we want them to add since it's essentially what the others have done, just a different brand of fuse box!?
