Tough break! I got one from my local Bent Bike. Don't think they are anything special. I'm sure the guru's here will fill in the blanks.
    Good luck getting home.

I used vise grips clamped onto cable and pulled against bars for leverage as needed.

Good for emergency. Should only need the clutch to start from stop. You can do the 2500 rpm force shift/downshift otherwise.

I saw Yamahansolo show up at an XSive Riders Rally with a custom clutch cable he got at a bicycle shop. It worked well for at least 2 days, but looked lightweight & less sturdy.

A good used one should last a long time if kept well lubed. Might check with OEMfor me and follow his suggestions.

              temporary

Go to a place selling bicycle parts and find a cable long enough with the proper end to fit into the clutch handle. Run that cable into the old cable cover and grease it well putting it in. They make little conectors that can tighten down on the other end. Find one that will go into the clutch thow out arm and hold its position. If the end slips and slides your clutch operation will not work well. This will work for a little while but the clutch cable on the XS is a heavy cable and weaker cables will wear fast. You can get the right cable off EBAY for 25.00 or less including shipping. AS I do not know what resources you have that's the best suggestion I can give.

Remember the weaker cable will NOT last long so this is temporary fix suggestion.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

An easy way to keep a spare if you don't have any luggage/storage space is to keep a spare cable zip-tied to the original cable. Doesn't take up much more room, and the spare is already there and routed if you need it.

                            Hi Airborne,
hopefully by now you got a ride home, your bike is stashed safe and a replacement cable is on it's way.
You can ride home clutchless but it's not a thing I'd choose to do these days.
I may be summoning my own doom here, but I haven't had a clutch cable fail on me since 1959. Modern cables and most importantly cable lubrication systems are far better now than they were then.
What the truly paranoid used to do back in the day was to tape a spare cable alongside each in-use cable so if a cable failed just pull off and swap the spare one in.
Another thing everyone carried was a little can of Renold "chain spares", two master links, one cranked link and one single link.
Modern chains are vastly improved, too.

Do specials and standards use the same clutch and throttle cables?
