Well, I ditched my airbox for the Mikes XS pods about 6 months ago. Took a look at the carb boots today and they are looking a little cracked at the top due to the increased strain of supporting the carbs. The crack doesn't go all the way through so I will make them pretty again with some black RTV or tool coating spray (for the second time). Anyways, I will be fabricating a support bracket this weekend. I've scoured the forums and haven't seen any pictures/write-ups of others that have fabbed brackets. I was planning on re-purposing the tab that my octy was mounted on before I removed it. I'm just not sure where I will attach the bracket to the frame. Does anyone have any pics of their setups? I'm probably overthinking this and should just go out to the garage and just do it...

How about some plumbers tape (the metal roll with holes in it) strapped to the frame tubes, and looped under the intakes? JAT. Though it may make removing the carbs a little more difficult that way...1980 XS850SG - Sold

Hey Nick,
under the gas tank there is a bracket that the middle drive vent tube is run to, to keep it out of the rain. You should be able to run a piece of metal to that bolt and the carbs somewhere....like you said, the Octy mount, or just one of the bolts on the rear mount bracket/rail bar that the carbs are bolted to to keep them together.
I will say that I've been running pods since 2000, and haven't made a bracket for mine YET, my intakes were cracked on the outside, and still are, but the inner linings are still fine.

I've seen this done on a couple of memebers bikes. They took a piece of sheet metal and cut and folded to make two legs that go the rail TC mentioned on the top back of the carbs. One leg between 1 and 2, the other between 3 and 4. They come together to a center tab that goes to the same upper frame bolt that used to hold the air box bracket, same one TC was mentioning.
Hope that gives you some direction.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Nick,
You've got the idea. Front of the bracket mounts to the old octy bolt. Rear to the bracket that holds the vent tube. I used a piece of 3/4" x 1/8" aluminum strap. To make the jump you need two bends. Take the strap back a little from the octy bolt, then up towards the frame and then back to the rear mounting spot.
Play with it a little so that you're comfortable the carbs aren't tilted towards the engine so a stuck float won't run gas into your engine.
Really a simple and very sturdy fix.

Not quite how you will need to do it with your pods, but I used the same bracket as the others have described.
