  • Carb boot gaskets

I kept hearing this strange little whistle noise on the bike and thought I had an exhaust leak.. only the sound would disappear when I got to the front of the bike. It started running worse and wouldn't idle worth a crap at stoplights. Finally figured out it was a vacuum leak. I used those crappy little paper gaskets that come with the new carb boots I installed a while back and it was leaking there. When I took the boots off, that gasket just brittle as heck and just crumbled. I put them back on with some high-temp gasket material and it purrs nicely again.

Just FYI. I know a few have come on here and asked about if they should use those little gaskets or not. I would recommend "Not".

When I pulled my boots off after I got the bike the gaskets looked like crap and were brittle. Didmt even bother with them. Just used some rtv like you said.

I've got a few of those paper gaskets laying around if you want them. All I've ever used is silicone or 3bond.
