And put some silencers on the bike. Straight through, unsilenced pipes are an abomination. They are anti-social, mess up the jetting, annoy everyone unnecessarily and make the rider look like a selfish, inconsiderate road user

Not sure how it goes on that side of the "pond", but around these parts where I live, you hear alot about "Loud pipes save lives". Granted, that comes mostly from the Harley riders that toss their factory pipes the day they get the bike for some loud obnoxious things.

Truth or not, I do not know, but alot of locals have noise ordinances that your vehicle must meet. Typically a decibal rating at a certain distance you can not exceed.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

Yes, I've heard people say that here too. We have fairly stringent decibel limits but people often ignore them. Even here, Harley Davidsons sound like light aircraft which I find laughable, since they are all noise and no performance. Big, shiny, ugly noise-makers that most bikes can burn off (quietly).

Re the "loud pipes save lives"... my own view is that any rider who depends on making a noise in order to 'save lives' isn't riding properly. Road/hazard/pedestrian awareness is something a rider should do all the time and using the argument that making an anti-social, mind-numbing racket somehow enhances safety is disingenuous, to say the least. It sounds like a feeble excuse to justify attention-seeking. I do know that it irritates many people intensely, makes living near a road feel like hell, and announces to the world that the rider is a selfish person. I read that one noisy bike ridden through Paris at 3am wakes 6,000 people.

Whoa, whoa! I don't see how you came to that conclusion. Either way, sometimes in order to learn something you have to take some dookey on the chin, man. I've had project managers cuss me out on Dive sites for things I didn't even do, but you just have to suck it up hoping the filthy scoundrel will learn something on you some day.

This is about the friendliest pack of guys on any forum anywhere. You won't find a more helpful crew anywhere. And make sure you really check up on the stuff they tell you to look at because in my experience they have yet to be wrong. I learn from the tips/members of this site all the time and I've fixed everything from Model A's to Vipers. Lots of valuable knowledge rattling around inside these guys rattle-cans and they're quite happy to save you time, money and blood pressure for little more than an occasional smart-ass remark edgewise.

I do check every thing that is asked to check it just gets frustrating when you just keep hitting the wall. I get heated very quickly when i cant figure things out and as a mechanic i tend to not list the simmple things i have done first. I just check those things off and dont mention that ive alrady checked them. So there for when you guys say hey look here and i have already checked that but didnt tell you. I can see why i would feel like your irritated with me cus i am irritated at myself. Not saying that i dont come back to this site everyday. I love my bike and love this site. I find enjoyment out of being here and am sorry if i ruffeled any feathers. The problem was the floats not being set properly. Im new to carbs so i dont know alot and that is frustrating. I have had great advice from this site and i hope to get more.

                Hey GTXS,

We've all been there, some even have holes in their garage walls where a hammer went thru it! However, we aren't mind readers, and we can't assume what anyone knows or what they may have already done, so that's why we have to ask. This is also why we ask folks to keep posting within the same thread for the same problem so that we can see what has been done, has already been suggested, etc., but we DO need to know, even the otherwise obvious stuff for you, but not necessarily for other less skilled folks/newbies that may also be following your thread.

Glad to hear that it was the carbs causing your tuning issue, and that hopefull you'll get it figured out/tuned for those straight pipes, and THEN would ask that you post back here with your results, your specs...jet sizes, float settings and such, so that we can add that info to the collective braintrust, so that WHEN another person comes along and wants to run their bike with open pipes and no mufflers, that we can at least suggest your settings that you have found work for your year/model of bike.
