Too bad I did not know that earlier or maybe I would have tried the plating way. The 200 bucks I spent on Ceramic coating my headers might have gone into plating and a couple of coats of high heat paint...lol. None the less you have a nice bike there and you should be very proud of your accomplishment!

Tried it with the shop door open but there is too much reflection. I'll take some better ones when I can roll her into the sunlight.

Allow me to add to the accolades to you sir...your approach is admirable as well. I dont have the aptitude to do what you have done... to my XJ but I surely wish it looked as stunning as Spica.... BTW immediately was drawn to the ceramic'd exhaust because its a dramatic improvement in looks over the orig. finishes... Just beautifully done all the way around...

          Mac

How is everything holding up on the restoration? I am particularly interested in the ceramic coating on the exhaust? If you don't mind sharing what kind of coating is it?

In tandem with Cajuns question, could you give a little more details about the coatings. Or the web addresses of the firms.
I'm looking to improve my 80 mns from 'very nice' to perfect and it's only the gold and exhausts that need bringing on. :-)

              Cermaic exhaust coating

The product for the exhausts was from Techline Coating and is called Thermo Chrome. The colour was 2000 degree Black. On top of that to give it a shine was a product called Therma seal. Both applications are applied by spray then baked on at 600 degree.

                Gold

I'm working on the gold process right now but it may take some time. This guy is busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. I've asked him some specific questions and he is good at replying when he takes a break and will sit at the computer.
As soon as he replies I'll post the info.
Sorry I should have run this down sooner. It was expensive so I didn't think there would be much interest.
