Hey guys I recently purchased a 79 xs1100 special and the other day I was riding and I heard a click or tick coming from what seems to be the trans and so I went to downshift into second and the rear locked up on me and I slid for about 16 feet before coming to a Stop. The bike in neutral would only roll backwards. On attempts to move forward the drive was locked up. Not sure what it is any help would be appreciated thanks guys.

I would start by pulling the clutch cover off. See if something came loose in there and is binding on the clutch gears. You could also pull the four bolts connecting the middel drive out put to the drive shaft. If that lets it roll either way freely, you know your final drive and shaft are ok.
From there, try pulling the clutch off and see if that helps. Most likely something came loose and is jamming into the gears in the clutch area.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
