Numbers...10.07 1/4 ET at 140.84 mph. and you can bet your life, new owners will be buying stuff to make them faster. And, of course it's not the fastest, quickest or most powerful. Ride the XS with the satisfaction that it's yours, more than likely paid for, and older than a hell of a lot of riders out there.
I think any Mod someone wants to make on a XS they should be looking @ stuff that makes more torque. You can feel torque on the street. Unless your riding your bike balls to the wall all the time you'll never use the extra 4-10 HP you'll make with expensive mods. Plus too many mod's can make it unreliable. Good pipes and maybe an air box mod can give you a little more power with out making it a tuning nightmare.
Remember its more fun to ride @ bike @ 80-90 % of its potential than it is to have too much power and you can only use 50 % of it.Don

thanks Nate. i dont think i noted that, but read it previously. now i know why i wrote down 120 mains.
thanks Greg, i was afraid the K&N kit might cause issues but wasnt sure. maybe thats just the K&L rebuild kit with the incorrectly drilled jet sizes. ur link didnt work but ive researched them before. i was just thinkin about putting Mikuni's in from Nichecycle.com
in reality, i think my issue is i cant seem to stop wanting to work on it while riding seasons not here yet, whatever it is. must be luv.Last edited by mjpxs11sh; 03-11-2012, 08:05 PM.Max

Cy, the 80-81 bowls will interchange, but they're different from the '78-79; you can't swap between the 'types'...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

If you'll look at the tech tips in the FORUMS sections, the MODS, Fuel & Carbs, you'll find photos and info on how you can adapt your pods to those carbs with just a few plumbing parts!
I didn't review this entire thread so I can't recall if I suggested getting some new aftermarket HI OUTPUT Dyna or Accel coils? They can help you get more bang out of the fuel. It's also been commented about how our fuel now has at least 10% alcohol which actually reduces power, so you might also play with some fuel additives or even try mid or premium grade! JAT!
