  • XS1100F Petcocks

    Hello all,
I'm finally working on my XS after about 8 years. When I tried to start it the last time, fuel started coming out of the air box. I thought it was carb problems so I left it alone until now.
I have torn it down to the frame and all looks pretty good except for the petcocks and filters. This explains the fuel in the air box but gave me a bigger headache trying to find replacements. (As I'm sure you all know about )Reading some of the forums I gather there is a way around these but I'm not sure how.
Thanks for any help you can give and I'm glad to be back on the site.

Also, has anyone tried to modify the air box to allow K&N filters to fit inside? (cut out the insides leaving the frame of the box maybe?)

First, if you're getting fuel in the airbox, you have at least two problems; leaking petcocks and carbs.

There's several 'fixes' on the petcocks; you can replace with some 'universal' units (but you need adaptors to fit them to the tank), rebuild yours back to stock with kits, or semi-convert yours with a manual 'off'. Check in the tech forums for a few how-tos...

As to the airbox, I've done it...

Don't have the bike running yet, so whether or not there's any performance gain remains to be seen...

K&N sells a stock air filter for the XS. YA-1400 is the part number. I think I have a spare new in box K&N filter sitting in the garage still.

You are not to far away from me. I am up in Pewaukee.
