  • LED Turn Signal Diode

    Hey All,

I am trying to upgrade to LED turn signals as well as the speedo from mikesxs with the indicator lights built in. I have installed the lights and the no load flasher is in the mail but now Im trying to figure out what diode I need to put in the wires leading to the speedo since it only has one light for the signals. Can anyone tell me the specific diode and where to splice in there? Ive looked around on the threads but havent found any part #'s or anything from radio shack.

    Thanks for the help!

I don't think you need any 'specific' diode, just one rated for at least 15 volts; if the current was higher, then you need to worry more about the 'size' of the diode. And you'll need two; you need to install one in each 'feed' wire to the indicator light (the chocolate and dark green wires), grounding the other side of the LED.

When I did my LED mods I found the turn indicators were too dim to see in full daylight and switched them back to incandescent. The current draw on those little bulbs (and then only when flashing) is nominal, and your no load flasher won't mind one incan bulb at all, mine gets along just fine. Actually, most no load flashers will handle from about one watt to around 150 watts. Just my $0.02.

Cool, thanks guys. Yeah I know they probably wont be as bright, but Im going to give them a go and see if I like them.

IMO, the issue with brightness is this type of lite emmited does NOT play well with the difuser design of the lenses that were designed to refrack incandecent light. The newer design lenses are tiny diamonds and refrack both types of light well, and ARE a requirement of ALL DOT regulated vehicles.......if they wanna be nit-picky. Any of you who are or have been CDL drivers know exactly what I'm talking about.
