    Thanks for the responses!

Everyone, thanks for your responses. I don't have time tonight to sort through all the responses, but will get to them eventually. As my bike-line (or whatever you call it) indicates, I have a 79F (Standard). I would like to keep the bike as stock as possible, so I do not want to consider relocating the turn signals, unless it is the only option.

There was a stock relocation mount for the rear turn signals. It was a bar that bolted to the license plate mount. Here is one for sale even.

        Hi Geo,
it's said that all today's biker needs to carry is a cell-phone and a credit card.
And that's all that will fit in soft bags small enough to install with the rear signals in their stock position.
Buy the $19.95 signal light bar.

          I stand corrected!

I had assumed that my bike had the rear signal lights in their original position, but they are in-fact on that license plate bar you mentioned. A PO must have moved them from their stock location!

As stock, were they attached to the rear fender? If so, I am in better shape than I originally thought! (As you may conclude by now, I have Nooo experience with saddlebags!!)

            Hi Geo,
well, kinda. The signals on a bar was the alternative if the bike came fitted with factory hard bags.
See the photos in BA80's post #7. It shows that the stock rear signals are mounted to hardpoints built into the frame. BTW, the bike in the photos is an '80 or '81 Special; your '79 Standard has a different rear fender and rear light mounting position.

Fred, I beg to differ. The bags on my Special will each fit an entire sandwich!
