    i was wondering if the camshafts from my 81 xs special would work with my 79 xs special. anyone know?
    1979 xs special, just finished the top end rebuild and then i still have lots of work.

    If the timing on them is perfect they will WORK, but they will not perform as well. You should make sure you keep the same caps that came with the head though, as they are matched to the head. But the reality is you should look for cams from another 79 engine though.

      The later '80-82 cams have slightly higher lift on the exhaust cam IIRC, but considerably shorter duration (how long the valves are open) on both, so as Cy said, you'll take a performance hit. The later motors had larger valves to compensate for this....
