  • Handles and stuff......

    Hey all,

I've decided I need to replace my bar switch because the start button is pretty messed up and since mixesxs has good prices, why not? (http://www.mikesxs.net/product/24-2060.html)

    But here is my question:

If I'm going to replace, are there any less bulky, maybe simpler options for the throttle and switches? I'd like to see what kind of options are out there and make sure they would work on my bike. Have any of you done something similar?

    Thanks

If it's just the start button, that can be replaced rather easily and cheaply; look for Mikes part # 24-6525, $6.50.

As far as swapping out the controls, there's not a lot of options because of the bar size; 7/8" bars aren't used on street bikes that much anymore. What there is in that size, most is aimed at off-road applications and is more utilitarian than 'custom' and may lack all the needed switches. You'll also run into the problem of throttle cable hook-up, matching a cable to the carbs.

If you have a V-twin with 1" bars there's all kinds of trick custom stuff out there (very little of it inexpensive) but for a vintage bike with the smaller bars very little...

Steve, I used your part number to find that part on Mikesxs, and than used what they say is the OEM number to find it on Bike bandit. It comes up with a Kawasaki horn button on Bike bandit, do you know if this is the same? (I have enough bandit bucks to cover it)
      Thanks

I have no idea.... It's possible, the OEM manufacturers buy a lot of these sorts of parts from outside vendors so it could be the same...

I hear many sport bikes use 7/8" bars. I think it was lee dutcher(sp) just put a modern sport bike unit on his bike.

I bought the aluminum buttons from here, they work great.

+1 on the aluminum starter/horn buttons Tom mentions. They work and kind of bling it up a bit.
