  • engraved middle drive?

Just a quick question... I just changed my middle drive on my xj due some shavings in the oil. I swapped with a part off a older bike I'm guessing. When I took my md off the bike I noticed the on the inside of the housing some one had hand engraved 3/22. The used part I bought did not have anything. It was hand engraved I guess that's what caught my attention. It just seemed odd to me. Has anybode else seen this before if what does it mean?

You'll find that hand engraving on final drive units too. Sometimes it's dates, sometimes it's reference numbers used in the original assembly. Not important.....
