I was getting 2 to 6K out of a rear depending on which cheap tire I got but the E3 is the best wearing, and actually handling, tire I've had on there.

I'm thinking the compounds have gotten softer in the center, but just wanted to see if others have been experiencing the same. Maybe they were lasting too long and not getting enough return sales fast enough? 15k miles may be several years worth of riding for a lot of people. That's about a half season for me. I suspect that's what happened to the windshield wipers in the past. When I was younger, wiper blades used to last for years, but now you're lucky to get a single season out of them.
An Avon Venom on the rear used to get EASILY 10-11k miles, but those got to where they were only lasting 6-7k also. Like most things these days, companies only care about money, and getting a good quality product out there is secondary to that.
So I can believe them changing the formula to make sure the tires didn't last too long.Cy

mr. trbig, it sounds to me like you have been progressivly adding more psi to your tires with each new one to compensate for added weight and are now over pressurised.

For the first 4 or so Elite 3's, I'd get anywhere from 14-16k miles out of them, then they progressively got worse. I haven't seen or heard any other tire getting even close to that. You need to quit running those Dunlop 404's.. lol. Those are great tires.. for about 1500 miles.
I've heard a couple people on here say they had some straight line traction issues with these Elite 3's. I've never had a problem, but I'm a heavier guy (As has been pointed out by a couple people that used to be friends..) and have always ran the bike with a fairing. I wonder if maybe others complained and they made the tire softer/stickier?
Anyway.. I was just trying to find out if anyone else has had these issues or if I just got a couple tires that were made at quitting time on Friday right before a 3 day holiday.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

With the way you ride, and the amout of baggage you carry on trips, i'm surprised you get the mileage you do. You are just a beast."If A equals success, then the formula is: A = X + Y + Z. X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut." - Albert Einstein

Tod,
For what it is worth, I am having the same problem. 14K was about normal on the E3. Last one I had to pull of only had around 10K and I shrugged that off due to road construction, bad habbits, etc. Just went out and looked at the Dragon and then looked up the install miles on the data base. She has about 7800 miles on it and it will not make the first month of riding I am thinking.
On the other hand, as long as I was checking things I looked at the Little Dragon. It has a ME880 on it that only has 8400 on it and it is SHOT!! The last 880 on there went 16K so something is rotten in the wood pile for sure. The Old Tamer

If there are more than three bolts holding it on there, it is most likely a very important part!

Thanks, Gary. That's the info I was looking for. I will be sending Dunlop an email telling them why I'm dropping them.
Since I mount my own tires and that cost isn't part of the equation, I'm making a switch. It looks like I'll get @ 6k miles out of this Shinko (Who bought out Yokahama) 712. From Motorcycle Superstore, I can order 3 of those for just about the price of one Elite 3. That's @ 18k miles for the same price, and I'll keep good fresh rubber on the ground. Now.. if I'd learn to actually keep that rubber on the ground instead of the expensive used-to-be shiny bits with the rubber up in the air....Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

Tod,
You will get the standard form letter reply. "There is NOTHING wrong with our tires, they are all good,,,Blah etc etc.
Same BS I got from them over the front E3 issue.
I still don't know what I am going to do here but it won't be a shrinko or a chicken skin I know that. The Old Tamer
