Yeah, some people get away with it, and others don't. Besides the clutch issues, many people have noticed oil leaks they'd never had before when they switched to the synthetic.
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

I remember back in the mid 80's the syn. oils became real poular with the Gold Wing crowd. Never heard of any slipping issues from them, but then again they were pretty much the land yach crowd. They did start complaining though of different seal leaks that hadn't previously existed as trbig has stated. I'm sure the modifiers and formulas have changed and improved from back then, but the higher cost hasn't and I see no value to its longgivity for most, as they still change their oil at approx. same intervals as those using different dino varieties in these air cooled motors.

That's the thing that I'm seeing. I can't see myself increasing the oil change interval, given that the filter system just isn't good enough IMHO to clean the oil well enough and the scavenging system isn't good enough to clear the crankcase enough to keep it clean longer than the normal intervals. Based in that, I just can't justify the expense being that these engines will go well in excess of 100,000 miles with dino oil as long as you don't get stupid and let it get diluted with gas or the like. If you do let gas dilute it, using synthetic isn't going to save you anyways, so IMHO you wasted your money.

Well, that makes feel real good I changed both from dino to full syn. 75-90w and have put a little over 2K on it since last May. Did I hurt anything yet? I won't put another inch on it till I change to 75-140w. Is there much of a difference between that and 85-140w which I can readily get?

From there a 4 bolt round mounting flange that bolts up to a same flange off the middle drive. I presume you know that middle drive has a drain and fill plug also..........and needs to be serviced with a lube change also. U can use the manual reccomended 80-90- weight, but several of us here use a 75-140w syn. such as Royal Purple. Do NOT...I repeat do NOT use a 80-90w if using a syn. in either the middle or final drive. They do NOT have the same lubricating properties( and that goes for your vehicles also).

No, that's a minimal amount of miles IMO, but using a syn. gear oil I would advise going to the higher viscosity rating. That which you stated you can readily get is fine.
