  • XJ-XS Airbox Swap?

Anybody ever tried this? I was looking at the XJ box and the 'shape' where it fits into frame doesn't seem to be much different from a XS box, this might be a way to get around that pesky unobtanium XJ filter....

Tried that when I was restoring my XJ, had a boot issue on the XJ airbox and a good XS box. It wont fit back in the XJ airbox space. Hits the down frame tubes. The boots don't interchange either. Made do with the XJ box and picked up a spare XJ box mostly intact for the next time the XJ carbs come off.

      Steve,

Air Cleaner Element 10M-14451-00-00 is not unobtanium. It is available for around $25 from your favorite Yamaha parts discounter.

Well, tried a quick test-fit.... The XS box would fit in the XJ frame, but all the mounting brackets are enough different that you'd have to rework every one. Sidecovers would need modding too... oh well.....

Will you all quit telling Steve that something won't work? You know darn well he is going to sit there and study it, cut and weld, paint and shine till it fits and still looks factory finished !!!!
