Steve, if you can edit that tech tip, REALLY(most) important step left out: having scoot vertical or on centerstand so as to keep chain centered under crankshaft sprocket. IMO, would be first step.

I like how I have to pull the exhaust off it and use a jack just to put this bike on the centerstand, because I dont have enough mass to push the bike up onto it. I swear to God, if HD would take it as a trade in for a down payment on a new bike, I would get rid of it today...Joab

But even with the bar missing, you still should be able to get it up onto the centerstand. One issue with the Specials is the smaller rear tire, so you need to lift those a bit more as all models use the same height stand.
Put the bike on the sidestand in neutral (important!). Turn the handlebars full left and grasp the grip with your left hand. Put your right hand under the frame rail right behind the rear shock (you'll want to pad your hand with a rag or a glove with a missing grab bar). Tilt the bike up to level, and with your right foot on the centerstand pedal, put as much of your weight as possible on the pedal while lifting up with your right hand and pulling back with your left. Should come right up....
If I can do this with my bad back, anybody should be able to...

BUT seriously, try rolling the rear wheel up on a 5/8th inch thick piece of plywood and you'll be halfway there when you follow the above...

Steve- I will try that with the something under the rear tire next time. Or maybe I need to find a grab handle from somewhere for this thing.

As James said, its more with your leg than your arms. You have to stand in the right spot and kinda push forward with your foot as you push down..Or somthing like that . Once you do it right you will be amazed.Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas.

For the record I am 5'10" and about 200lb. I never turn the bars, keep them straight so they offer no resistance. Since my accident, I use my left foot on the centerstand, right hand grabs the seat rail, frame area. Stand up on the left foot and pull with the right hand pulling back with left hand on bars. Right more controls the rate of movement so the bike does not slam back.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I stand on the bike when I put it on the center stand (no, not standing on the seat). Left foot on the center stand right door on the right peg. I put mist all my weight on the center stand "pedal" and balance on the and then just lean back and give a little tug on the bars. I can control how fast it rolls back with the front brakes so it doesn't slam back on the stops.Nathan

All a leverage technique Joab. Myself only 5'10"@180lbs. can easily pop my Venturer on the centerstand. It's also some 140lbs. more than any naked Special having the tail trunk/rack, hard cases/framework and the fairing with stereo housing.
