  • Yamaha Theft Protection Lock

Hello, I was going through a xs1100H SH owners manual and on page 20 it has a paragraph about a Theft Protection Chain I have a 1980 XS1100 Special and was wondering if that year and model came with it I do not see a mount for it, if it came with one I want to see if I can find one, and how it mounts, it would come in handy.
Thank you for your time and response.
    Ron

That was a '81-82 feature, not offered on the earlier bikes. Your frame lacks the mounting points for the hardware....

And this was a bit that went missing pretty often anyway, the guys with the bikes that had them have a hard time finding them.
Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

'78E original owner - resto project
    '78E ???? owner - Modder project FJ forks, 4-piston calipers F/R, 160/80-16 rear tire
    '82 XJ rebuild project
    '80SG restified, red SOLD
    '79F parts...
    '81H more parts...

    Other current bikes:
    '93 XL1200 Anniversary Sportster 85RWHP
    '86 XL883/1200 Chopper
    '82 XL1000 w/1450cc Buell, Baker 6-speed, in-progress project
Cage: '13 Mustang GT/CS with a few 'custom' touches
    Yep, can't leave nuthin' alone...

      Hi Ron,
      not on my XS11SG neither.
Best you buy a sturdy aftermarket security chain instead of trying to find a Yamaha one.
If the Yamaha XS11 security chain is anything like the one that came with my XS650 Heritage Special, it's only good feature is that it works with the ignition key.
The chain itself is so frail that I wouldn't use it as a dog leash for anything bigger than a Yorkie.

+1 to Fred's comment. My XS650 has it. It is useless. I guess it's on there for ballast.

I've got one on my LH, but I agree, it's not good for much other than filling up the storage hole. The fact that the ignition key unlocks it is nice, but I think a pair of wire cutters could cut it too... It is a conversation starter though!

To answer your question though, there is a plastic compartment under the battery box, just in front of the rear MC. It opens to the right side. There is a pin on the frame that the lock mounts to (need the key to remove it), and the chain just gets crammed into the plastic compartment.

Seen 'em. They're rubbish. Wire snips are almost good enough to cut them....... very gimmicky.
