  • Difference between Standard frame, special frame

Is there a difference between a 78 standard frame and a 79 special frame?

Things I can think of are...

Different rear brake pedal setup, Special welded to the frame, not on Standard
Tabs for sidecovers are different location, they should all be the slot type
Uses different rear aluminum footpeg brackets between the two, Standard one houses rear brake mechanism, bolts up differently L & R

Almost every bracket from the fuel tank/rear motor mounts back is different... Besides the ones Phil mentioned, the rear fender mount is different, as is the attachment points for any accessories. Different rear brake linkage/shaft between the pedal and master. If you wanted to convert one to the other, there's 12 brackets that need to be changed (I thought about doing this once... for about 5 minutes ). The seat and upper shock mounts, swingarm pivots, and battery tray mounts are the only things the same...
