So I know this issue has been brought up time after time but i couldn't seem to fix the problem by just stretching the wavy washer. Also the rubber ring is broken in one spot and almost completely corroded in the other spots. But I'm afraid that it might be another issue because its not leaking from the handle portion but underneath the whole thing. I just stuck my finger underneath the petcock and feel the gas dribbling out. What do?

May be time for rebuild kits. In the meantime I may have the rubber ring and the gasket between the petcock and tank that would probably work to keep things together for a while at least, and their sitting in a bag doing nothing. That said, you can get rebuild kits in a few days and they come with everything, but most of them you need to stretch the diaphragm spring just a little to make them shut off (only a bit though) as the post is just a tiny bit shorter.Cy

Not the same bike, but installing rebuild kits fixed my leaks.
Then one of them started leaking at a mounting bolt. It turned out it was stripped. I replaced the bolt and all has been good since. That's pretty obvious when you always have a drop of fuel visible on the head of the bolt.82J · 81SH · 79SF Fire Damage · 78E · 79F Parts Bike · 04 Buell Blast

When installing petcocks to tank check the surface of the tank it should be clear of all paint and be smooth no visual scratches. The petcock has a groove the gasket fits down into to. The groove should be clean but a little flexible sealant makes a good seal. The gasket should raise above the edge of the petcocks once it is inserted so when its bolted down it is mashed making a good matting surface. When the gaskets go bad they tend to harden and shrink and do not fully seal leaking gas. If your gaskets are bad buy new ones do not try to put an O-ring in as I have unfortunately seen as gas will leak out the screw holes. To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

I looked today and I do have both a good rubber ring (it's not new but it's in pretty good shape, I also have a good handle as well if it's a bum handle that tore up your rubber ring) and I also have a good tank to petcock o-ring/gasket (not really an o-ring, as it has cross pieces for the screws and such, but it's not flattened at all so it should seal well). You can have them if you need them, just gotta pick them up, I'm here pretty much all the time so pretty much any time is good. I still have that oil filter bolt too, and a spare filter cup even just in case still sitting here that I'll never use.Cy
