My heart is shattered as I sit looking at my XS1100RH the left side of her engine looking like some post apocolyptic city ravaged by incessant warfare! I remember the events in eerie detail! Cruising down a south african pothole that I had mistaken for a back road. I was doing 60km/h and was navigating the crater field relatively sucessfully, to my surprise! Suddenly the asphalt surface seemed less hostile and I eased back on the throttle. However as I came around the blind rise corner a new reality awaited me - a deep road-wide canyon greeted my front tyre with a passionate interlocking kiss of the french variety. I was unscathed in relation to my baby, she lay there bleeding! Her headlight, indicators, gear selector, and left engine fins were all but, destroyed! Her ignition timing cover and timing unit are filings left on the road!

Okay, before I really go into an emotional eulogy befitting Hamlet, the main reason for my thread is I want to restore her to her former glory but, have NO Idea where to start or where to get parts for her!

Hope I don't seem too forward being a new member but, I really am desperate!

Well, it's a bummer your first post has to be about a disaster...

One issue you'll have is you'll need to source a lot of your parts from non-US suppliers if you're trying to stay original or don't want to get into a lot of mods. Your model was never sold in the US or Europe, it's shown as a 'Oceania' model which would be mostly Australia and New Zealand. I think it's fairly rare even there, you don't see many posted about here. The basic bike is the same, but there's a lot of detail differences...

Best Bet? Do another post, only title it 'Help with wrecked RH Model' and hopefully the guys from 'down under' will come to your rescue, or at least point you in the right direction. Good luck!
Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

'78E original owner - resto project
    '78E ???? owner - Modder project FJ forks, 4-piston calipers F/R, 160/80-16 rear tire
    '82 XJ rebuild project
    '80SG restified, red SOLD
    '79F parts...
    '81H more parts...

    Other current bikes:
    '93 XL1200 Anniversary Sportster 85RWHP
    '86 XL883/1200 Chopper
    '82 XL1000 w/1450cc Buell, Baker 6-speed, in-progress project
Cage: '13 Mustang GT/CS with a few 'custom' touches
    Yep, can't leave nuthin' alone...

Why not post some detailed pix? I'm sure many parts will be obtainable here in Europe...

Sorry to read of your incident. If it's a help, the RH is near identical to the 5K7 sport which was sold in the UK and Europe. Here's a link to the UK site - http://www.benefiscal.co.uk/forum/index.php

In particular, use Brians part number finder to see what parts can be sourced from other models. It makes life so much easier to be able to compare bits in one place.
They have a couple of members in SA. Eric in particular may be able to help you out. Can you list the parts you need to replace?

Kerras, here's a link to a thread on the Aussie site that I put a step by step guide how to compare the various model parts - http://xs1100.com.au/forum/index.php?topic=35.0

You may have to sign up as a member to view it due to a spate of spam attacks but it's helpful for someone who hasn't been online before.

                Hi Kerras and welcome,
sorry you wrecked your bike, glad you survived OK but while your text sez South Africa, your header sez United Kingdom so WTF are you and the wreck located? No point in locating parts in the UK if you are in SA and vice versa.

                  Hey Fred,

When I register folks, I use their logged IP address that the site provides thru the CONTACT US link, and look it up, and then put it in as their general location. So...he may have been using a Proxy site, not sure? I'll edit his account and change it to South Africa!

                    Hi TC,
Andrew's profile (which I presume he filled in himself?) sez UK too.
Perhaps we'd best wait until he admits where he lives?

                      Fred,

That little bit of Profile info is pulled from the REGISTRATION info that I put in when they register. I also put in their year/model of bike...when they provide it!

His profile should now say South Africa...I think that's a good bet since he stated so in this thread.

When you get onto the UK site, In particular look up Evil Eric. He resides in SA, and has a number of Standards and Specials. He's even had the privelige of owning an RH Rod Gray replica so he knows his way around these bikes and it'll really save you some shipping if you can source the bits over there-
