Seperating a LED strip so it's not on the same plane as the tails mounting up higher on trunk again gets my vote.
Looked @ different LED strips and bars on flea bay last night and it would be cheap to do. I really like the custom dynamics bar that flashes a few seconds before going solid red. But its flat and plastic backed. And my trunk is curved. It could be done I guess

Anyone shown this one yet? http://www.signaldynamics.com/products/Modules/xp.asp
I am not sure which way gets my vote but the easier to be seen the better. Nothing bugs me more than these guys who think a set of bullet lights or such is so cool cause you can't hardly see them....DUH!!!!!.

You ride what you want and I may look at it and go DUH!!!. Who really cares? I have a buddy who rides a harley and his signal lights on his rear end are smaller than a dime. Oh yeah, I must also mention that you can not see them from anywhere except behind him. To me that makes it legal but of no value at all. I will always have at least as large as stock signals etc on my bikes. Maybe that, is why I lived several more years than I thought I would.

Ya I'm a walking contradiction... I wanna add more lights to my XS and I take them away from my R1.

Check out aquarium LEDs on eBay. I fitted a couple of strips of the red LEDs to the back of my luggage rack. They are 12V LEDs so it's simple to connect into the brake light wire.

The LEDs are mounted inside strips of clear rubber so can fit to any shape mounting. They are wired such that you can cut them to length and (of course) they're waterproof.
