  • new from nj... and great site

thansk to all for letting me register.. i always built racecars. i have receintly
aquired a 1980 xs11 from my uncle.. he is the original owner.. the wiring harness went bad and he tore the bike apart to replace it all.. the new harness is in and he stopped there.. so i have many boxes of parts. and boxes of new parts he bought for the bike.. i am excited to build my first bike.

not looking to go crazy with it.. change the stance and bars.. lower it a bit..
remove the airbox.. little things.. so i say that now..haha .

even have fresh rebuilt carbs along with the originals with rebuild kits to do those as well.. new fenders ignition and so on.. lot of stuff to go thru..

thanks for an informative site .. pics will be up soon... only thing i know is missing is the seat...

Reseter, You'll find it a little easier if you put your type of bike in your signature. It'll help others tailor their responses to your questions if they know what you've got.

By the pics, it looks like a special, so that would be an 80SG.

I'm working on my project also an 80SG, I'll probably be giving you some advice too.

Another piece of wisdom is to get your hands on a service manual.
There's a member here that has a link to one on his signature.

Anyway, feel free to ask away and use the search feature. (it works okay, but dont' waste too much time with it, just ask)

Oh, and welcome to the love/hate relationship of these wonderful bikes!

Given how far apart it already is you might as well finish stripping her down and paint the frame while your at it. Nothing worse then rebuilding a bike and being proud of what you have accomplished only to say to yourself, Crap, I wish I had painted that frame.
                      Happy building
