Whats up guys... I took the dress off "Old Man" to check the valves yesterday. This is the first time I've ever torn down this bike in my life. Was hoping I could just pull the gas tank off and leave the fairing in place. No such luck... But 2 hose clamps and 2 bolts later I took the "jammer" off and stuck it on the ground.
Played with the petcocks while the tank was off. Diaphragms hold well... Didn't even drain the gas! Tipped it too one side to check out the leaky petcock. Inside seal looked good. Lubed everything with some white lithium grease. put a little extra tension on the spring washer. put it back together. TA DAH!!!! no more leak!
Now to the Valves. OMG what have I gotten myeself into!!!??? LMAO If I would have ground some clearance into the tool from the start with like the dozen pictures I've seen on the net this program would have gone faster. Ended up having 5 valves in need of adjustment... Every intake valve and #4 exhaust... The good thing is I only needed to buy 2 shims because after some swapping the rest around it solved itself. Local shop had shims in stock for $8.50 each, so a trip into town and it was back together.
All in all it was a good day. I didn't run into anything I couldn't handle with a little thought... Its a bonus to have a 2 owner bike and I spent most of my lifetime with the bike and the owner.
Put the bike back together and hoping it stops raining today to test it out. Seems to run alot better in the garage. Valves are a lil more noisey.
Turn the radio up to solve that problem
Heres some pic's I snapped while in there. Sorry its not all detailed. I'm a get in and out kinda guy and then wish I would have taken more pics after its buttoned back up.
