  • No more OEM Fuseblock

Wow, did the fuse box upgrade today, found the gremlins 1st, here is what I started with

2nd, opened up that big glob of white tape and removed the OEM box

3rd, remover 10 splices and attached new ends

4th, installed the new fuse box and connected the wires, I had to re-rout as they were shorter when I removed ALL the splices, works fine though

5th, here is all the crap th PO had FIXED, note the hose clamp holder used to hold one of the wires on the the fuse Gremlins dead

Nice. I would have used fully covered terminals though.

I was just thinking of eliminating the possibility of one shorting against something.

Probably won't be a problem but bare connectors like that make me nervous.

            Hey Lon/Oem,

That block looks like the ones I resell, did you get it from me, I can't remember? If so...I would have thought that you would have also received the fully insulated 90 degree crimp on connectors?? If you didn't, and you would like some, I can send you a set of 10-12.

Also, you forgot 1 fuse...the AUX terminals. I rerouted mine thru one of the spare slots in the fuseblock to eliminate that glass one as well. You'll need to take the holder off, run one end of the red wire to the new block, run another red wire to the end that has the (+) Screw, and then the negative black wire to the (-) screw for the ground of course, totally bypassing the glass fuse.

              Cool

I thought about that also, so I check by trying to push them togather, the only thing that can touch is the insalation to the metal clips, not clip to clip, and I mounted the box with lock tight, so it should stay in place and has plenty of room between the term's and any metal parts, I might spray them with liquid elec tape JIC

I ask on here and everyone told me that fuse does nothing on a 79SF with no acc's on the bike So I just left it alone? Dont think th 90deg will work for me as I dont have enough wire after removing the 10 splices the PO left me with, the strait connectors give me just lenth to make the connections on some of the wires

Looks like a fine work of electrical artistry to me. Worse comes to worse, put some electric shrink wrap on them. Cheap and protects.

If it helps you feel any better, here is what I got for a "Fuse box" when I bought Banshee...

Yep, but end connectors and wire nuts for fuses, mostly just twisted wires with e-tape wrapped around them...

                  And the main "Fuse"..

Note the lack of any connector or cover.

                    electrician / mechanic

I am not an electrician, more of a mechanic, I was just sharing what I did, and how it effected my bike, I am pleased with the results

                          Hi OEM,
the plastic covered ends ain't to keep the rain off, they are so you don't inadvertently short across them with a screwdriver.

Lets say you did, they are ALL postive 12v wires If they dont make grond (and like I said, they are all way far from contacting any ground contact, if fact, you would have to break one off to make ground) So, I am guessing I am OK

You're correct, the odds are against a short there, but an ounce of protection beats the he!! out of a pound of cure any day. I'm thinking maybe if you had some shrink wrap the correct size and put that on the end of the connectors, it might provide a little more "just in case" protection.

Fuse box looks good.. nice and neat.
